The Council of Advisers yesterday approved the draft of Dhaka-Kolkata passenger train service and sent the Truth and Accountability Commission draft to the law ministry for further scrutiny.

An agreement between Bangladesh and India would be signed “soon” for the train service, which both the countries have agreed in principle to start from April 14.

Earlier, railway officials finalised the details of the service at a two-day bilateral meet on Wednesday-Thursday.

The “Moitree [friendship] Express” will travel between the Cantonment station in Dhaka and the Chitpur station in Kolkata through Darshana border. Two trains will simultaneously leave Dhaka and Kolkata every Saturday and return on Sunday.

The train from Dhaka will have a capacity of 418 passengers and that from Kolkata 366 seats. The 538km journey — 418km in Bangladesh and 120km in India — will take 13 to 14 hours.

The advisory council in its weekly meeting, presided over by Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, also endorsed the Chartered Secretaries Ordinance 2008.

“The meeting also discussed in detail the draft law titled the Voluntary Disclosure of Information Ordinance 2008,” Syed Fahim Munaim, press secretary to the chief adviser, told the media after the meeting.

The Chartered Secretaries Ordinance 2008 was finally approved in order to develop secretariat professional skill and confer chartered secretary degree.

Under the ordinance, a Chartered Institute will be set up in Dhaka. There will be a 17-member council to run the institute. Of them, 13 will be elected and the rest will be ex-officio.
