Another Tangail tragedy kills 18 bus passengers

In yet another fatal road accident, 18 persons were killed and 55 injured when a passenger bus skidded off the road and fell on the railway on Jamuna Bridge Approach Road in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early yesterday.Injured bus passengers alleged that the driver of the Dhaka-bound bus from Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram was drowsy and was driving the overcrowded bus at a very high speed.The accident happened only three days after a passenger bus had been rammed by an intercity train on a level crossing, just 5km away from yesterday's accident spot, killing 17 persons and injuring 25, ... EC may wrap up talks if BNP fails to unite

Hasina readmitted to Square Hospital

Detained Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina was again admitted to city's Square Hospital yesterday. A convoy carrying the former prime minister, suffering from various medical conditions, reached the private hospital on Panthapath at around 8:30am.The jail authorities had to take her to the hospital several times in the last few days as her ear and eye problems worsened, said hospital sources.Talking to The Daily Star last night, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddique said, “We took her there for routine checkups, but we had her admitted on suggestions from the doctors.”Asked if she would be taken to ... Ulema body’s views go against constitution

Roads replete with deaths

Dhaka for on-board visa checking, joint customs inspection for Maitree

Army to be deployed at Wasa pumps to ensure smooth supply
