Detained Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina was again admitted to city’s Square Hospital yesterday.
A convoy carrying the former prime minister, suffering from various medical conditions, reached the private hospital on Panthapath at around 8:30am.
The jail authorities had to take her to the hospital several times in the last few days as her ear and eye problems worsened, said hospital sources.
Talking to The Daily Star last night, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddique said, “We took her there for routine checkups, but we had her admitted on suggestions from the doctors.”
Asked if she would be taken to the court today for a hearing in the MiG-29 graft case, he said, “If she is deemed physically fit, we will make necessary arrangements for her presence at the hearing tomorrow [today].”
Earlier, the AL chief was admitted to the Square Hospital on March 12 and kept there till March 30.
MIG-29 CASE HEARING TODAY
UNB adds: The charge-framing hearing in the MiG-29 scam case against Hasina and six other people is scheduled to resume today in Dhaka Divisional Special Sessions Judge’s Court.
Earlier, the government relocated the court to Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex on security grounds.
The Supreme Court on March 18 cleared the way for resuming the long-stalled trial proceedings of the case, dismissing the leave-to-appeal petitions of the accused against reviving the case.
