The pre-dialogue talk between the pro-Khaleda faction of BNP and the advisers of the caretaker government is scheduled for this evening at the state guesthouse Meghna.
Commerce and Education Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman last night told The Daily Star over telephone that the meeting will be held at 6:30pm.
Sources said the government informed the BNP faction about the schedule over telephone yesterday.
Meanwhile, detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia gave advance consent to whatever decisions senior BNP leaders would make led by Khandaker Delwar Hossain about the dialogue and the party’s unity issue, her lawyers barrister Nawshad Zamir and Masud Ahmed Talukdar told reporters.
They met Khaleda for one hour and 45 minutes yesterday afternoon.
On April 7, the commerce adviser made a phone call to acting Office Secretary Rizvi Ahmed of pro-Khaleda faction of BNP to invite them to an “informal” meeting.
In an immediate reaction to the invitation, leaders of the pro-Khaleda faction said their Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain must talk to Khaleda before accepting the invitation.
Later, Delwar sent a letter to the jail authorities seeking permission to meet Khaleda to discuss the government invitation. The jail authorities refused him the permission.
On April 17, the commerce adviser texted Delwar inviting the faction to talks at 5:00pm on April 18. The leaders of the faction in an emergency meeting afterwards decided to accept the government invitation to the pre-dialogue talks.
Delwar told reporters after the meeting that they received directives from the chairperson to accept the invitation. The same day the pro-Khaleda leaders talked to advisers and urged them to fix a new date for the talks.
