Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina was yesterday seen to give the cold shoulder to some of her party leaders who had opposed her in different forums inside the party.
The former prime minister exchanged pleasantries with other party leaders as she entered her Sudha Sadan residence at around 2.30pm after being released from a sub-jail.
On entering the Sudha Sadan residence, the former premier embraced Motia Chowdhury, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and was seen to exchange words with acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and some others.
Hasina was also seen talking to AL’s acting president Zillur Rahman intimately.
The AL chief however seemed to ignore Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaq and Suranjit Sengupta, AL sources said.
“Our leader seemed to be ignoring some party leaders known as reformists within the party,” an AL leader present at the scene told The Daily Star.
AL senior presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaq, Suranjit Sengupta, Tofail Ahmed espoused reforms in the party following the imposition of a state of emergency in the country on January 11 last year.
Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta and some other AL leader placed reform proposals after Sheikh Hasina was sent to jail.
Zillur Rahman, Sajeda Chowdhury, Matia Chowdhury and Syed Ashraful Islam has criticised those leaders saying that the reform proposals are aimed to disassociate the AL chief from the party helm.
