More than two thirds of the Barisal City Corporation (BCC) election centres are vulnerable, Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) concluded.
Sixty-three out of the 91 polling centres are “vulnerable” and 13 of them are “most vulnerable”, officials said.
The most vulnerable centres are Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) office in Kawania, Sayeda Majidunnesa Secondary School-1, Sayeda Majidunnesa Secondary School-2, Alhaj Dalil Uddin Primary School-1, Alhaj Dalil Uddin Primary School-2, Khawja Moinuddin Chisti Senior Madrasa, Nuria Kindergarten, Nuria High School, Mathura Nath Public School-1, Mathura Nath Public School-2, Sagardi Union Secondary School, Sagardi Islamia Kamil Madrasa-1 and Sagardi Islamia Kamil Madrasa-2.
Hayatul Islam, assistant commissioner of Kotwali Zone of BMP, said a large number of policemen would be deployed at the vulnerable centres along with joint forces personnel and appropriate number of magistrates.
District Election Officer Monirul Islam said there are 1,79,293 voters, 91,351 male and 87,942 female, in BCC where the election is scheduled for August 4.
He said on June 26 about 12 aspirant mayoral candidates attended a seminar at Barisal Auditorium organised by the Election Commission and NGOs for the BCC election candidates.
At least 185 prospective ward commissioner candidates for the 30 word commissioner posts of the BCC, and 33 female probable candidates for the 10 reserved women word commissioner posts, also took part in the seminar.
