Code of conduct violators to face criminal cases

The Election Commission (EC) this week will instruct the law enforcement agencies and returning officers (RO) to file criminal cases against violators of the code of conduct for August 4 polls.It will also direct the officials engaged in election duties to lodge complaints with local criminal courts against breach of electoral rules, said sources in the EC Secretariat, referring to the draft of the instructions that are likely to be issued in a day or two.Individuals or contestants too can make complaints with the criminal courts or local police stations, added the sources.EC Secretariat officials said the EC ... Rice stocking emerges as stiff challenge

700 tolas of gold looted in city

Robbers yesterday looted about 700 tolas of gold worth over Tk 1.5 crore and Tk 4.07 lakh in cash from a jewellery shop in the capital's Mirpur.Sources said a gang of four robbers entered Dewan Jewellers on the first floor of Shah Ali Shopping Complex at Mirpur Section-1 at about 2:00pm and pointed firearms at the three employees of the shop. Redwan, wife charged with amassing Tk 3cr illegal wealth

D8 chalks out 10-yr economic roadmap

The foreign ministers of the eight developing Islamic countries (D8) have approved a 10-year roadmap for economic cooperation among the member countries.Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the two-phased roadmap envisaged increased intra-trade from the current 5 per cent to between 15 and 20 per cent by 2018."Currently, intra-trade between member states is only five per cent of the total D8 global trade.
