At least 14 people were killed in two road accidents in Dhaka and Comilla yesterday.

Six people died and 13 others were injured when a human hauler skidded off the road and fell into a ditch after a head-on collision with a passenger bus on Nabinagar-Kaliakoir Road under Ashulia Police Station last night.

Of the dead, two were identified as Sourav, 26, and Abdul Barek, 28. The identity of the rest could not be known immediately. The injured are undergoing treatment at hospitals and clinics in the area.

Ashulia police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus from Tangail collided with a Kaliakoir-bound human hauler from Nabinagar at about 9:30pm.

All the victims were the passengers of the human hauler. The unidentified four died soon after admission to a local hospital.

UNB from Comilla adds: Eight people were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident on the Comilla-Brahmanbaria Highway at Sangchail village inder Debidwar upazila yesterday.

The dead were identified as Helal Uddin, 28, his wife Sitara Begum, 22, Ruby Akhter, 6, Nargis Akhter, 75, and her son Kamal Uddin, 22, Moslem, 28, Harun, 30, and Bashir, 30.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 2:15pm as the driver of the Brahmanbaria-bound bus from Comilla lost control over the steering and fell into a ditch, killing six passengers on the spot and injuring 27 others.

Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries on way to Debidwar Upazila Health Complex, while the rest were admitted to the hospital.

In another accident, an ambulance collided head-on with a covered van on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Shuagazi under Comilla district at around 2:45pm yesterday, leaving a physician couple and the driver of the ambulance dead.

They are Tahmina, 28, and her husband Apu, 32, physicians of Chouddagram General Hospital, and ambulance driver Kamal, 35. They were returning to the district town from Chouddagram.

The ambulance caught fire after the collision.
