President, CA pay homage at Tungipara

President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 33rd death anniversary.

The president and the chief adviser placed wreaths separately at the grave of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj. They stood in solemn silence for a few minutes when army bugles played the last post, paying tribute to the father of the nation.

Later, the president and the chief adviser, accompanied by senior civil and military officials, offered special prayers, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Bangabandhu and for the peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Army Chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed, Navy Chief Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam and Air Force Chief Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman also paid homage to Bangabandhu. They offered special prayers seeking salvation of the departed soul of the great leader.

President Iajuddin Ahmed placed wreath at the grave at 10:12am while Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed at 11:05am, reports a correspondent from Gopalganj.

At the time of placing wreaths, a guard of honour was given by a contingent drawn from three services of the Armed Forces.

“On the 33rd anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s martyrdom, I am paying deep respect to him on behalf of the nation and praying for the salvation of his departed soul. He is the portrait of the Liberation War and an architect of independent and sovereign Bangladesh. The nation will remember his contributions with due respect,” wrote Iajuddin in the condolence book.

“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a outstanding personality in the history of Bangladesh and an everlasting ideology. He is the great portrait of our Liberation War and founder of an independent Bangladesh,” Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed wrote.

Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim, Press Secretary to the President, Abdul Awal Howlader and Maj Gen M Rafiqul Islam, general officer commanding, Jessore Cantonment and other high civil and military officials were also present.
