The holy Shab-e-Barat will be observed across the country tonight seeking divine blessings for the well-being of mankind.
The observance of Shab-e-Barat has special significance for Muslims who believe that on this night Allah determines the fate of all living beings for the coming year.
Muslim devotees will spend the night at mosques and houses, offering special prayers They will also hold milad, visit the graves of their near and dear ones and offer prayers for the peace of the departed souls.
They will also distribute food and sweetmeat among the neighbours and the poor on the holy night.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed gave separate messages on the auspicious occasion.
The president in his message said: “We can make our life beautiful and successful by following the dictates of the Quran and the path shown by Hazrat Mohammad (SM).”
“We should seek special blessings from the Almighty on this night and pray for the country’s continued prosperity and for the unity of Muslim Ummah.”
In a separate message on the occasion, Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed made a fervent appeal to the countrymen to be united for establishing a just, welfare-oriented and democratic society by sinking all differences.
He sought divine blessings for the welfare of the people and the country.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned explosion of crackers and fireworks in the city from today until further order to maintain the sanctity of Shab-e-Barat.
The DMP Commissioner Naim Ahmed imposed the restriction under the DMP Ordinance 1976.
