22 parties take forms for registration

Twenty-two political parties have collected forms for registration with the Election Commission (EC) until yesterday.

Of them, 14 forms were collected yesterday by parties including PDP of Ferdous Quareshi and Kalyan Party of retired Maj Gen Ibrahim.

The registration of political parties under the Representation of People Ordinance (RPO) began on August 27. October 15 has been fixed at last date for applying for registration, which was made mandatory for contesting the general elections.

The parties who procured forms yesterday are: Bangladesh Muktijudda Krisak-Shramik Okya-jote, Bangladesh Khelafat Mojlish (Nuruzzaman), Forward Party, Public Party, Pakmon Peoples Party (PPP), Samajik Rajnaitik Andolan, Chetonai Bangali, Bangladesh Kalyan Party, Freedom Party, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Jatiya League, National Awami Party (NAP), and Bangladesh Communist Party (Maxist-Lenist).

The eight parties who collected forms on Thursday are: National People’s Party, Islamic Shashantantra Andolan, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Independent Gana Andolan, Bangladesh Sachetan Nagarik Manchha, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Jamaat-e-Olama Dal and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal led by Abdul Malek Ratan.
