At least eight people, including three women, were murdered in the capital in the last five days.
Police said a housewife was allegedly beaten to death yesterday by her in-laws at Malitola in old Dhaka. They recovered the body of Rebeka Sultana, 17, wife of Monir Hossain, in the morning.
All her in-laws went into hiding after the incident, police said.
Quoting their neighbours, police said Monir married Rebeka about 10 months ago.
In another incident, criminals shot dead the driver of a private car and took away the vehicle at Gulshan-2 on October 1.
The victim was identified as Rubel Haolader, 30, of Kuratoli in the capital.
Sources said criminals shot Rubel at Gulshan-2 in the night and hijacked the car.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
“My husband was killed on his way home after dropping his boss businessman Nurul Islam,” said victim’s wife Sharmin Akter Hasi.
Hospital sources said Rubel received a bullet in his head.
A day labourer was killed in the city’s Uttara on October 3.
Gulshan police arrested Mohammad Sajib, 22, another day labourer, on charge of killing Mahfuz, 15.
Police said Sajib scuffled with Mahfuz on a field at Uttara following a previous feud.
At one stage Mahfuz fell and his head struck a stone leaving him dead.
A man allegedly strangled his wife Farida Begum, 35, at their Uttar Gobindapur residence at Jatrabari on October 1.
Police recovered the body.
Farida’s husband Jony Khandaker went into hiding after the incident.
The victim’s brother Nurul Islam filed a murder case against Jony.
Criminals killed a worker of an aluminium factory at his house at Nolgola at Lalbagh on October 2.
Police said they found the body of Abdur Razzak, 33, tied with electric wires.
The law enforcers arrested Musa in connection with the killing.
The owner of a phone-fax shop was allegedly killed at Arambagh in the city’s Motijheel on October 1.
Police said they recovered the body of Mohammad Selim, 32, from the house of his father-in-law.
Selim’s relatives alleged that he was murdered and later his body was hanged from a ceiling fan at the house to cover up the murder.
Hospital and police sources said there were injury marks on different parts of the body.
Another housewife was allegedly killed by her in-laws at Nurpur on October 3.
Onamika Soma, 27, wife of Moniruzzaman Palash, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her father-in-law’s house.
The victim’s father Kaisar Ahmed said Onamika’s in-laws had been demanding Tk 5 lakh as dowry. They killed Onamika as he failed to meet their demand, he alleged.
Besides, a shop employee at Bangabazar was beaten to death by a mob at Ershadnagar in Tongi on October 2.
At least six others were injured in the incident.
Police said Abdul Kuddus, 32, was killed following a previous dispute.
