A negotiation is going on between BNP and the caretaker government on creating a level playing field for the upcoming polls, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, chief of BNP’s foreign affairs subcommittee, has quoted Khaleda Zia as saying.

He was briefing reporters after Khaleda’s meeting with ambassadors and representatives of some Muslim countries at her Gulshan office yesterday.

Mobin said the former prime minister told the envoys that BNP is an election-oriented party, but a level playing field is a must for a credible and acceptable election.

The envoys of eight Muslim countries–Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Morocco, Kuwait, Libya and Oman called on Khaleda Zia and hoped that the national election would be held on December 18.

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain and former foreign adviser Reaz Rahman were, among others, present.

“We want a free and fair election in this country,” Palestinian Ambassador Shaher Mohammad told reporters after the meeting.

He also said they are not interfering in the internal politics of the country, but want a good election with participation of all political parties.

Replying to a question, the envoy said the political parties told them that they want to take part in the election. “The government has already announced that election will be held on December 18 and we are in favour of it.”
