Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday said economic freedom as well as peace, prosperity and development will be ensured in Bangladesh if her party-led grand electoral alliance is voted to power.
“The price of essentials will be reduced, production of power will be increased, education up to degree level will be made free, subsidy will be given in agricultural inputs, and community health care facilities will be ensured,” Hasina pledged.
She was addressing two election rallies in Tungipara and Kotalipara in Gopalganj-3 constituency from where she is contesting.
At the Tungipara rally she pledged to take appropriate measurers to increase allowances for widows and elderly people, free transportation and medical facilities for freedom fighters, and rehabilitation centre for children, among other pledges.
The former premier also pledged that food items would be exported after ensuing self-sufficiency.
She termed the December 29 election a battle between peace, prosperity, development, controlled price of essentials, social stability and economic freedom in one side and militancy, crime, corruption, black money, torture, repression, looting and price hike on the other.
“We got independence, but economic freedom has not yet come. Economic freedom was the key target of the Liberation War. Awami League will ensure economic independence if voted to power,” she said.
She also said their allegation of enrolling over a crore false voters by the BNP-Jamaat coalition government has been proved now.
Referring to the corruption cases filed against political leaders, she said, “Though several graft cases were filed against different party leaders, it is crystal clear who resorted to corruption and crimes during the last political rule.”
The AL chief categorically said the allegations and charges brought against her are completely baseless.
Thousands of party leaders, activists, supporters and commoners joined the Tungipara and Kotalipara rallies. Several thousand people in Kotalipara stood in long queues on both sides of the Tungipara-Kotalipara road carrying AL electoral symbol ‘Boat’ and chanting slogans.
The AL chief is set to address different rallies in Bagerhat and Khulna today and Jessore, Kushtia, Jhenidah, Magura and Faridpur tomorrow.
