Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government’s first task is to fulfil people’s hopes and aspirations.
“A huge responsibility is bestowed on us and we shall try our best to meet people’s expectations,” Hasina, also the president of Awami League, told reporters in her immediate reaction after swearing in as the head of the government.
She said they will have to improve the law and order situation and bring the prices of essentials within the purchasing capacity of the common people so that they can lead a better life.
The AL chief said they will ensure smooth supply of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to the farmers.
“We want to build a developed Bangladesh by 2021 to face the challenges of 21st century and for this we will have to make people educated,” said Hasina who was accompanied, by her sister Sheikh Rehana and daughter Saima Wazed Putul.
The prime minister cautioned that all must remain alert so that no one can snatch people’s democratic and constitutional rights.
The country witnessed suspension of constitutional and democratic rights of the people in the last two years’ emergency rule.
Replying to a query, Hasina said new faces have been accommodated in her cabinet as people like young leaders who can materialise their dreams. “People do not like to see same old faces again and again,” she said apparently pointing finger to senior party leaders, known as reformists, who have not been included in the cabinet.
She also said more new faces will be included in her cabinet.
