Bangladesh has strongly condemned the unrelenting indiscriminate Israeli attacks on Gaza that left nearly a thousand people dead.
“We are appalled by the scale of devastation and the deaths of innocent Palestinians, including women and children, in the attacks. Bangladesh is deeply concerned at the unabated violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law by the Israeli occupation forces,” said a foreign ministry statement yesterday.
“It is disconcerting to see that even the humanitarian workers are being killed by the Israeli attackers,” the release said, adding that entry of the ICRC, an international humanitarian organisation, has also been blocked.
Dhaka also noted that the special papporteur for the Palestinian territories has been denied entry into the occupied territories. Foreign journalists are also being deterred to report from the conflict zone.
“We deplore these actions of the Israeli government which are blatant violations of international law,” said the protest note.
Bangladesh calls for immediate halt of the Israeli attacks that have so far caused deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians, many of whom are women and children, and destroyed all infrastructures in the occupied territory.
“Israel must comply with the United Nations Security Council resolution 1860 adopted on the 8th of January that called for an ‘immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, leading to full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza’”.
Bangladesh made a strong demand that humanitarian workers must be guaranteed full and secured access to the Palestinian population who are in dire need of food, medicine, water, electricity and shelter.
“We also demand unhindered access of the ICRC and media into the occupied zone,” the release said.
Bangladesh also reiterates its longstanding position that the continued occupation of Palestine by Israel is the root cause of violence, unrest and destabilization in the region.
The people of Palestine are being denied their fundamental right to self-determination and the right to live freely in their own land. Millions of Palestinians are living in refugee camps, for generations, in abject poverty.
“We believe that full and sincere implementation of the relevant UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions can only resolve the Palestinian crisis.”
The ministry further said: “While we are deeply concerned at the continued Israeli violation of the UNSC resolution 1860 that aimed at cessation of hostilities, we hope the
UN Secretary General’s visit to the region would be helpful in restoring peace in Gaza and in all of the occupied Palestinian territories.”
