Finance Minister AMA Muhith today is going to announce the much-expected recession package for the industries affected by the global meltdown.

The package would be announced before the press at the ministry conference room at 11:30am.

The minister held a meeting with the high officials on the package last Friday.

Sources said, exporters in different sectors demanded cash subsidy from the newly formed government but the package would not meet much of those.

As corruption might occur with dealing cash the government is thinking other forms of support.

The sources said the ministry sought list of affected ventures but none could provide that. They think the adverse effect the industries are claiming to have suffered has not yet been experienced. However, the government will extend support so that such impact can be averted in future.

On Thursday the finance minister told the journalists that the government would announce a short-term stimulus package.

Muhith said the government would announce comprehensive features of the package in the budget in one and a half months. It is better if the package comes up with the budget, as all the issues will be addressed in it, he added.

“It would be a confidence enhancing package. It shows that we have not forgotten the impacts of the global recession the country has been facing,” the minister said.
