2 Lashkar men held inside Indian border

Indian authorities have arrested two top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) men who sneaked into Bangladesh to lead a 15-member commando squad in an attempt to attack the US and Indian missions in Dhaka, sources in the law-enforcement agencies say.The LeT men -- T Nasir and Sharfaraz from Indian state of Kerala -- were held by the Indian intelligence officials soon after they crossed the Bibir Bazar border in Comilla on November 6, the sources add.The two LeT leaders, believed to be members of the LeT suicide squad, were earlier hiding in the hilly areas in Chittagong for around one and a half ... 12 Rifle rebels stand in the dock today

Guarantors asked to produce Adflame directors in court

Tk 200cr defamation suit against Bashundhara

Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman, and Chairman and Managing Director of Mediastar Ltd and Transcom Group Latifur Rahman filed a civil defamation suit on Sunday with the 4th Joint District Judge's Court of Dhaka against Bashundhara Group, seeking Tk 200 crore in damages, according to a media release.Mediastar Ltd is the owning company of the Prothom Alo.On behalf of Matiur Rahman and Latifur Rahman, Dr Kamal Hossain and Associates filed the defamation suit on charges of publishing highly libellous and insulting advertisements and posters, and for other malicious activities.The defendants in the case are Chairman of Bashundhara Group ... Writ plea not for fugitive convict

The attorney general's (AG) office yesterday challenged the authority of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam for filing a writ petition with the High Court as a fugitive convict.Shah Alam on Sunday filed the writ petition challenging the then caretaker government's action of taking Tk 52 crore from his company Meghna Cement Mills Limited.Challenging the petitioner's authority, the AG office said Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam, the managing director of the company, is a fugitive from justice, and he has no authority to file such petition with this court.Shah Alam was sentenced to a total of 10 ...
