Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims, would be celebrated across the country on Saturday with due religious fervour and the spirit of sacrifice.

Well-off Muslims would sacrifice animals and share the sacrificial meat with their relatives, neighbours and the poor commemorating Hazrat Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion to almighty Allah as illustrated by his readiness to give up his dearest son Hazrat Ismail (AS).

In separate messages, President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the people of the country on the occasion.

Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also greeted the country people.

The state-run Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television (BTV) and private TV channels would air special programmes on the occasion.

The main Eid congregation would be held at the National Eidgah at 9:00am, attended by President Zillur Rahman among others. Separate arrangements were made at the Eidgah for women, diplomats and their wives.

Besides, five more Eid congregations would be held at the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque at 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am and 11:45am, says a handout of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh.

Eid congregations would also be held at different mosques and eidgahs in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country, with the biggest congregation at Sholakia Maidan in Kishoreganj.

Special meals would be served at jails, orphanages, vagrant centres and dormitories on the day.

BNP Secretary General Khandakar Delwar Hossain and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad greeted the people on the occasion.
