Execution: Special prayers offered at mosques

Shukrana munajat was offered in all mosques across the country after Juma prayers yesterday expressing gratitude to the Almighty Allah following the execution of the death sentence of five killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Special prayers were also offered in other worship places of the country at their convenient times.Five convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail early Thursday. Bangabandhu Verdict: Execution process to start now

The Supreme Court authorities yesterday sent the records of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman assassination case to the trial court to start the process of executing five convicts who are now in the condemned cells.The Court of District and Sessions Judge, Dhaka on receiving the records will issue death warrant against the five convicts, said Attorney General Mahbubey Alam yesterday.The records contain all the relevant papers including the copies of the judgements recently delivered by the Supreme Court and earlier by the High Court and the trial court.The attorney general told The Daily Star the trial court may issue the death ... Bangabandhu Verdict Text Released

The convicts on death row in Bangabandhu assassination case will get copy of the historic Supreme Court (SC) judgement on Sunday.They will get 30 days for filing review petitions with the apex court after receiving the copy.The full text of the 412-page judgement was released yesterday but copy of it was not available since the SC bench signed it late in the afternoon.The five-member bench headed by Justice Md Tafazzul Islam heard appeals by five of the 12 convicts sentenced to death by the High Court (HC).Earlier on November 19, the SC bench dismissed their appeals against the HC verdict.These ... Killer Mohiuddin sent to jail on arrival

AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed, condemned to death for killing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family on August 15, 1975, was brought back to the country yesterday, after over a decade on the run in the United States.Immigration police arrested him on his arrival at Zia International Airport (ZIA) at 12:18pm and took him straight to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka. No initiative yet to bring back killers

There has been no government move for bringing back the convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman absconding abroad, the issue overlooked by most of the previous governments.The taskforce formed in 1999 during the Awami League (AL) rule to have the killers extradited was dissolved after the BNP-Jamaat led coalition took office in 2001.During its five-year rule till 2006, the BNP-Jamaat government did not make any efforts in this regard. A federal judge in California has stayed the proceedings for seven days against Lt Col (retd) Mohiuddin Ahmed, the condemned killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, after fresh hearing of his case.In his ruling on Thursday, the judge charged the Department of Homeland Security with misleading Congress, particularly those members fighting the deportation order against the convicted killer.However, Mohiuddin's status remains the same.
