Academics question Prof Yunus’ entry into politics

Criticising Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus' micro-credit institution Grameen Bank and his decision to enter politics, a section of academicians yesterday said Prof Yunus has to clarify his ideological position before entering politics.The micro-credit system cannot be a means of poverty alleviation, rather it is deeply linked to capitalism that finally helps poverty continue, they said at the publication ceremony of a book at the Jatiya Press Club.The book titled "Grameen Bank and Dr Yunus: In the View of a Witness" by former Grameen Bank official Sardar Amin was published by Jatiya Shahitya Prokashani."Dr Yunus' declaration of entering politics proves ... Poverty to be put in museums by 2030

Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus yesterday said Bangladesh can be the first country to put poverty in the museums by 2030 tapping the huge potential and natural resources it has. "We've an abundance of natural gas and coal alongside a unique geographical setting. Prof Muhammad Yunus returned home yesterday with the world's most prestigious award -- Nobel Peace Prize.On arrival he hoped that the next general election in the country will be held peacefully as there is no alternative to it.Facing a volley of questions from journalists on politics and election just after arrival he reiterated his call for all political parties to participate in the election. Yunus invited to join conference marking 100 yrs of ’satyagraha’

Yunus unveils vision to end global poverty

Micro-credit pioneer Prof Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh, founder of Grameen Bank, unveiled a bold vision for ending global poverty as he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize yesterday."Poverty is a threat to peace," the economist turned humanitarian banker said accepting the 1.1 million euro (1.4 million dollar) prize.
