No respite from power cuts – HSC examinees suffer

Life in the capital and elsewhere in the country has become miserable with the mercury rising and its effects worsened by frequent power cuts.The HSC examinees are facing severe difficulties in taking their preparations due to rampant power outage while the erratic electricity supply is hampering production in factories as well as office works.With the mercury hovering around 35 degrees Celsius in the capital in the last several days, the frequent power outage, over eight hours a day, is hampering daily activities badly and the situation is becoming infuriating to unbearable, city dwellers complain and say their life would be ... Bangladesh HSC Results 2008 – www.educationboard.gov.bd

The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations 2008 held under the seven education boards, the Alim exams under the Madrasa Education Board and Business Management exams under the Technical Education Board will be published simultaneously today.The results of the Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Commerce under Dhaka Education Board will also be published.Students have been asked to collect results from their respective educational institutions from 2:00pm onwards. Quality science education a must for prosperity

The country has no alternative to using science education as a tool for improving the living standards of the people and for dealing with the economic and environmental challenges it faces, experts said.Alarmed at the decline of the quality of science education and student enrolment for it, key scientists and educationists of the country yesterday stressed the need for sensitising the government to allocating a larger budget for the sector to enhance teachers' capacities and update the curricula.Science textbooks need to be simplified, teachers' salaries need to be raised, and science graduates need to be motivated to become teachers, said ... 7 lakh out of 17 lakh SCC, HSC students drop out in a year

About seven lakh of nearly 17 lakh students enrolled on classes between IX and XII in 2005–06 for SSC and HSC examinations in 2007 have dropped out, sources in the education board said. ‘We are surprised at the 39.65 per cent dropout in secondary and higher secondary level as against 33 per cent in primary schools,’ an education ministry official said. The government annually spends more than Tk 600 crore as stipend for the students of primary schools and about Tk 200 crore for the students from Class VI to Class XII under female stipend projects, ... 86 colleges, madrasas draw a blank

Not a single examinee in 86 educational institutions including 31 Alia madrasas could come out successful in this year's HSC or equivalent examination.However, the number of colleges and madraras with zero success rate reduced significantly against 131 of the last year.Sixteen technical colleges, 22 colleges under Rajshahi board, eight under Jessore board, five under Chittagong board, three under Barisal board and one under Dhaka board are also on the list of no-success institutions.On the other hand, 388 colleges and madrashas across the country achieved brilliant result with 100 per cent pass while the number was 214 last year.Of the ...
