1 killed in BDR, BSF skirmish

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) traded bullets for an hour across Samanta frontier of Mohespur upazila in Jhenidah yesterday after BSF killed a Bangladeshi farmer.Meanwhile, around 400 people of the village Katchuarputa have left their homes fearing further escalation of the gun battle.Sources said Khabir Uddin, 40, and his son Suman, 10, of village Katchuarputa were mowing their field around 10:00am when the BSF shot Khabir killing him on the spot.An hour later, BDR reached the spot and took position near the border when the exchange of fire began. BSF kills youth in Satkhira

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) killed a Bangladeshi youth near Hardona border on Thursday night. Locals said the Indian border guards of Soldana camp ran a speedboat over Amir Hossain, 25, while he was crossing the Ichhamoti River with cattle, leaving him seriously injured.Bangladeshi fishermen rescued Amir in a critical condition. Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Bangladeshi farmer near Khatiamari border under Roumari upazila of the district yesterday morning.The victim was identified as Moniruzzaman, 32, son of Shirajul Islam of the frontier Khatiamari village.According to Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and local sources, the Indian border guards of Kuchnimari camp opened fire on Moniruzzaman while he was working on his cropland near the border at around 6:00am. BSF closes Tin Bigha Corridor

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday closed Tin Bigha Corridor preventing movement of cattle from Dahagram-Angorpota enclave to Lalmonirhat.Sources said residents of the enclave could not take their cattle to the cattle market in Patgram upazila for sale.On contact, 19 Battalion Commander of Bangladesh Rifles Lt Col Shafayet confirmed the incident and said they would call for a flag meeting today to protest against the incident.It was, however, not clear why BSF closed the corridor. Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) traded gunfire at Gazipur border area under Sadar upazila in Satkhira on Thursday night. Our Satkhira correspondent reported that BSF personnel of Pakirdanga camp under Basirhat police station in North 24 Pargana of West Bengal, across the Gazipur border at Sadar upazila, fired two to four rounds of bullets at the BDR camp around 2:00am, forcing the Bangladeshi border security force to retaliate with five to six shots. Indo-Bangla team to visit enclaves in a month

Bangladesh-India Joint Boundary Working Group (JBWC) will visit enclaves and territories in adverse possession in next one month and submit report to their respective governments, Indian Home Secretary VK Duggal said in Dhaka yesterday.The JBWC met in Dhaka on July 16-17 and discussed the outstanding border issues that cause frequent skirmishes between BDR and BSF."India and Bangladesh were friends, are friends and must remain friends. Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) traded gunfire on Baikari border under Satkhira Sadar upazila last night. The BSF personnel of Kaizuri camp in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, fired six to seven bullets targeting the Baikari BDR camp at about 10 pm, forcing the paramilitary Bangladesh troops to retaliate with 10 to 15 shots. Bangladeshi wounded in BSF firing

A Bangladeshi national was wounded as Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on Zakiganj border in Sylhet, while shots were traded between the Indian border guards and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) along the border in Satkhira yesterday.
